Nendo Designs the Block Wall House in a Japanese Forest
Amy Duong — June 21, 2024 — Art & Design
Design studio Nendo creates the Block Wall House with screens of concrete panels nestled in a forest. The triangular home is right in the Nagano Prefecture and it extends 110 meters along the roadside. The studio screened the home from passing traffic for a more private feeling whilst positioning gaps between them to keep a luscious view of the greenery that surrounds the home.
The studio explains to Dezeen, "Ensuring privacy and offering a sense of openness while living in the interior space are generally conflicting goals. In this project, however, we tried to achieve both through the design of the enclosing walls, aiming for a house that is completely surrounded by these walls. With two rows overlapping, the view on the other side is visible only when the block angles in the front and back rows align, otherwise, the view is obstructed. From the public road, the house appears to be hidden by these walls, but once inside, one can enjoy the lush green surroundings."
