A prototype developed by the team behind the "3D Soundscape" headset, this augmented reality helmet would provide potentially life-saving information such as blind-spot visualization. A Future Cities Catapult project, the helmet is essentially a bike helmet embedded with augmented reality capabilities.
By providing spatial and contextual information to cyclists throughout their journey, the helmet is poised to complete change how frequent bikers take to the road and navigate traffic. Unique proposed functions of the helmet include wayfinding with landmark prompts, pollution-free routing and route rectification in addition to blind-spot visualization.
Some of the proposed functions require attachable devices, such as one tool that attaches to the handlebars and gauges the quality of the air surround the cyclist while suggesting alternative routes that are free of pollution.
