Ask Dutch designer Mieke Meijer what the influence was behind her creation the Blend bed, and she’ll tell you that it was how people slept in the 17th century.
You see, the Blend bed is a unique fusion between a bed and a chair, and refers to how people would sleep in a semi-sitting position long, long ago. Apparently, sleeping laying down was associated with death (yikes). The Blend bed features a wooden frame that is fused with two chairs at each of its sides. The chairs can also function as night tables.
