Arizona-based bicycle advocacy group Old Street Components has invented the Bike Shift Lever, which is made entirely from scrap aluminum, a bottle cap, hose clamp and an ordinary nut and bolt. The Bike Shift Lever is part of a project that aims to allow people to make shift levers from easily available components such as bottle caps and scrap aluminum.
One Street is offering special Bike Shift Lever packages to non-profit bicycle advocacy programs around North America as well as the rest of the world. Purchasers have to pay a licensing fee but will receive the packages as well as technical and other support.
The Bike Shift Lever can be purchased directly from One Street for just $20 each. It can also be used as a throttle or choke on everything from motorbikes and boats to yard equipment.
