Automatic Self-Closing Shoes

The 'Bas' shoe has been designed by Yvonne Hung as a footwear solution that doesn't require extensive tying or effort to be worn. The 'Bistable Automatic Shoe' as it's known was created by the Royal College of Art student as part of her thesis project after an accident left her arm and hand in a cast for several weeks, subsequently diminishing her mobility. This helped Hung to create the shoe seen here with textile-based actuators that secure the foot in place when the wearer simply steps on the front and rear sections without the need for any physical interaction from the hands.

The 'Bas' shoe boasts a futuristic design aesthetic that will securely hold the foot in place during wear to help wearers maintain a sense of independence.
