Amazon recently announced that it will expand the use of its automated checkout technology, through signed agreements with a number of retailers. The company also launched a website where other retail companies can inquire about automated checkouts. Amazon states that the technology can be integrated into new or old locations within weeks. Additionally, Amazon stated it will handle installations, and also provide the business with a support line that is open at all times.
The e-commerce giant initially began experimenting with checkout-free locations in 2018, where customers would pay using the Amazon go app and a store QR code. After the code was scanned, customers could take whatever items they wanted and leave.
