Atelier NL's 'To See a World in a Grain of Sand' Explores Glass
Joey Haar — July 19, 2017 — Art & Design
Atelier NL, a Dutch design studio, has started a project called 'To See a World in a Grain of Sand.' The ambitious work hopes to collect sand samples from as many beaches around the world as possible, turning that sand into glass and seeing how those final products compare to one another.
To See a World in a Grain of Sand is collecting samples from all over the world, and anyone interested can send 330 milliliter bottles full of their local sand samples to Atelier NL through a site the company will be releasing in August. The studio will then fire these samples and produce glass with unique colors and textures based on the location whence they came.
Atelier NL is no stranger to collective glass projects, as its ZandGlas line of glassware offers pieces specific to different regions of the Netherlands.
