A drastic amount of ice continues to melt each year in the Arctic due to changes in the climate, so the conceptual 'Arctic Saver Tower' has been designed as a way to prevent even more from being lost. The system works by slowing down the melting process during the summer months, which also supports polar bears as they hunt and migrate across the ice.
The tower could be activated in April and would work to create and support ice development instead of allowing the melting to continue. When the colder months begin, the tower could be shifted to spray seawater to strengthen the existing ice and prevent further loss in the coming year.
The conceptual 'Arctic Saver Tower' is the design work of Yiyang Xu and Jingyi Ye.
