Artist Nikolai Tolsty creates elegant animal silhouettes out of pieces of paper and frames them against nature-inspired backdrops.
Various animals are outlined and cut from pieces of white paper so only their basic silhouette remains. Tolsty then takes his animal silhouettes and places them against natural elements to create an interesting mixture of texture and color to each piece. Orange autumn leaves are transformed into the fur of a fox, yellow flowers form the spots of an African giraffe and the careful placement of tree bark and moss forms the horns and body of a wild elk.
Although it may at first glance be simple, these paper cutouts of animals by the artist show a careful consideration for contrasting mediums between empty space and mother nature.
