Textile imprint Kvadrat works in collaboration with designer Teruhiro Tanagihara to launch the Ame material. It is the first recycled polyester textile that is crafted from waste fabric instead of the traditional collection of plastic bottles. The company notes that usually waste PET plastic bottles are made into recycled polyester whilst waste polyester is usually contributed to other products.
The manager at Kvadrat Innovation Lab, Lea Nordström shares "To innovate, we must disrupt the way we source raw materials and create textiles. Material diversity is key at Kvadrat and we work with a wide range of recycled raw materials. But we believe that the future will be circular. And so for Ame, we developed our first yarn made from polyester textile waste."
