Aidan Koch Borrows Graphic Novel Template for Illustrations
Jason Soy — December 9, 2011 — Art & Design
Aidan Koch does something with her paintings that is genuinely unique to her. Sure, other illustrators may dabble in creating comics, but I would classify her creations as paintings first that borrow the panels template in order to enhance the images she's trying to convey.
Aidan Koch primarily works with watercolors and is able to render beautiful expressive images even in the absence of her unique comic panel style. With its addition however, she is able to emote in ways artists who only use visuals can't. Sometimes, all it takes is a few simple words to amplify an artists ability to communicate to their viewers and Koch certainly isn't limited in that way.
If you think the inclusion of words detracts from viewers' engagement and discovery of each image, don't fret; Koch's paintings are still drench with cryptic elements.
