Jose Cuervo and surfboard maker Gary Linden recently teamed up to create the world's first surfboard that is entirely made from agave materials. Linden came up with the idea for the '100% Agave Project' after visiting the Jose Cuervo distillery in Mexico. It was here that he discovered all of the agave materials he would need to create the perfect surfboard design.
The core of the surfboard is made from a wooden blank that is sourced from the agave tree. The pulp from the agave heart is then mixed with water to make sheets that will form a kind of wooden laminate. The fin of the board is constructed separately, but then fixed to the main frame with durable agave pulp. Finally, the entire board is sealed with sap from the tequila plant. The end product is a toxin-free board that is both sustainable and naturally sourced.
