For the recent Zaabeel Park tall emblem structure design competition, Hongbo Lu entered a particularly interesting design entitled ‘Flying Colors of Dubai.’
‘Flying Colors of Dubai’ is made up of colorful flakes surrounding a twisted structure. While Hongbo Lu placed third in the Dubai design competition, his design is an incredibly futuristic but accessible design. Very cool!
Implications - A city's skyscrapers are instant landmarks that convey its economic success, technological prowess and innovative environment. Dubai is perhaps the most opulent example of this mass adoption of avant-garde architecture. Moving monoliths, vibrant exterior facades and mind-blowing design marked the many proposed edifices in Dubai before the recession hit and designers were forced to look in more lucrative markets.
