In celebration of the 50 year anniversary of the introduction of Shelby American, Inc.'s first car, the insanely fast 950 BHP Shelby 1000 will be unveiled for purchase at the New York International Auto Show.
Clocking in at over 200 horses more than any other Shelby model, the furiously fast car will be a limited edition -- with only 100 being made. The Shelby 1000 is a conversion of the Ford Mustang and is based on the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500. The GT500’s 5.4 liter V8 engine was completely restructured and is outfitted with either a Kenne Bell 3.6-litre or Whipple 4.0-litre supercharger. The suspension and drive shaft have also been revamped and computers have fine-tuned the firing of every piston in the vehicle to ensure maximum speed and handle-ability.
The 950 BHP Shelby 1000 will run a hefty price tag of about $200,000 US, but for those with a serious need for speed, the cost would be well worth it.
