From Anatomical Step Structures to Backbone Bookshelves
Michael Hines — November 28, 2011 — Art & Design
My desire for a bookshelf designed to look like a backbone has only grown after checking out all of these spinal cord creations.
The human anatomy, and the spine in particular, has inspired creatives from all walks of life. The spinal cord has been the inspiration for everything from shoes to furniture. Believe me when I say that a spinal cord hammock is a lot less creepy than it sounds.
Perhaps the greatest thing about all of these spinal cord creations is that most of them have both an eye-catching look and are also functional. The spine is one of the most functional bones in the body, so it seems only right that any design created in its image should be equally as useful.
