From Silkworm Cocoon Cabinets to Marble-Imitating Foam Blocks

For those who are tired of the clean-cut, minimalist connotations of contemporary homeware, experimental furniture — whether it is exhibited or for display-only, will surely spark some creativity in interior design.
There are many experimental furniture collections in the market that seek to challenge the notions of modernity in different ways. While some designers attempt to revolutionize material use and propose a new type of fabrication, others play around and expand on concepts that they are drawn to. An instance of the former is Marlène Huissoud who embraces German Expressionism and varnishes silkworm cocoons in natural honeybee bio-resin to create memorable silhouettes. The Campana Brothers are a great example of the latter, as they embrace the Story of Noah's Ark in one of their mesmerizing collections.
All in all, the world of experimental furniture design appears to have roots in the sculptural and absolutely no boundaries.
