Elanco Animal Health Develops Bovaer® to Cut Methane Emissions
References: prnewswire
Elanco Animal Health has announced that the FDA has completed its review of Bovaer®, a methane-reducing feed additive for dairy cattle, confirming its safety and effectiveness. This product was developed to significantly cut methane emissions and will be launched in the U.S. market in the third quarter. For its debut, Elanco Animal Health has also partnered with dsm-Firmenich to distribute Bovaer across North America, including Canada and Mexico.
The methane-reducing feed additive works by inhibiting the enzyme that produces methane in a cow's stomach, achieving a reduction of about 30% in methane emissions per cow. This innovation not only addresses environmental concerns by contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases but also offers financial incentives for farmers through potential carbon credits. As global temperatures rise and environmental concerns grow, consumers are more likely to support products that contribute to sustainability.
