France-based artist Yan Nascimbene has an eye for high-color contrasts and crisp drawing judging by his recent series titled, 'Travel.'
The paintings are in many ways reminiscent of Japanese Edo period painting, especially Hokusai. As alluded to, Nascimbene employs vividly defined lines and colors that contrast well with one another yet do not clash. This produces a sense of overall harmony within each piece, which is not an easy task to achieve for many artists. Many of the works in the series incorporate a definite degree of symmetry.
Trees, mountains and people are arranged in such a way that the paintings tend to focus along the center vertical axis of the frame. This lends a serene quality to the landscapes Nascimbene portrays.
