Sony's portable projector will now feature gesture controls on the Xperia Touch. The new technology was developed in collaboration with Israeli start-up EyeSight Technologies and will use a digital eye system to track user motions and translate them into controls. EyeSight Technologies has previously focused most of its efforts on gesture-recognizing phones, TVs and PCs, but has now shifted its focus to connected home devices and cars. Early demos of the Xperia Touch have shown its ability to project onto walls or other surfaces, with its tracking abilities demonstrated through games of Fruit Ninja or virtual piano-playing.
The Xperia Touch is just the first step for EyeSight Technologies, as the company hopes to implement its technology in cars. The company is already working with LG electronics, which already supplies some car computing technology, and hopes that its gesture control tech can be implemented into safety features on future vehicles.
