It often seems that first-world society is generations past reusable packaging, yet every once in a while, an example such as this wooden packaging crops up. Israeli student Dana Porat has developed a multipurpose collection of sustainable containers for black coffee and Yemenite spices that aid in the protection as well as the preparation of prized ingredients.
Inspired by the rounded shape of the coffee bean, the designer created a set of three spherical holders that separate into pairs of semi-spherical bowls. Each has a separating element best suited to the substance: perforated for the spices, sealed for the coffee, and a pestle makes a mortar out of the cardamom container. The wooden packaging is beautiful, durable, refillable, and even doubles as a collection of six drinking cups.
