Sun at Six Designed the Wolo Collection of Sleek Furniture

Sun at Six is an AAPIO family-owned and operated design firm based out of San Jose, California and it has recently presented the Wolo collection. This embodies a timeless design language that highlights Chinese joinery. Creative director Antares Yee founded the firm in 2017 with the support of his sister Capella Yee who is the Head of Operations. They worked with their mother Maria Yee to explore creative expression as she had studied classical Chinese joinery from a master craftsman restoring furniture for the Forbidden City.

Now, the firm implements those practices whilst integrating block structures, plush fabric, and jewel-style colors. Antares Yee notes, "I distinctly remember, there was this energy post-Covid where so many people were like, ‘I am leaving this past couple years behind.’ It just felt like people wanted a new page. We feel like it’s time to switch from the mindset of soft, cozy curves. Instead, we want to go for hard edges. We’re going to go with contrast, all with 90 degrees, heaviness in some places juxtaposed with thinness in others. And so that, in some ways, is our direct response to previous times in an effort to move ourselves forward mentally."
