It seems appropriate to classify this object as a wingback chair, even though it doesn't conform to the traditional shape of a flanged armchair. This is because the inspiration behind this piece of furniture has come from a tropical bird––a Quetzal, from which the seat received its name.
The cushioned wings of the chair create a cozy nest in which to sit, formed from feather-shaped pillows that can flop back and forth. On a whim, the user can invert the position of the plumes to reveal the colored fabric upholstery the other side.
This Quetzal wingback chair challenges the convention that furnishings such as this must be static objects. Marc Venot demonstrates how the user can come to interact with seating in accordance with his own comfort and aesthetic tastes.
