The Center for Process Innovation (CPI) has designed a concept for windowless planes that could be flying the friendly skies in as little as ten years.
The Teesside-based organization proposed replacing plane windows with full-length OLED screens, allowing travelers to experience the panoramic views of their journey as captured by exterior cameras mounted on the plane. The feature would also provide travelers with access to Internet and in-flight entertainment.
The CPI estimates that over three million people fly each year, which uses the over 200 thousand gallons of fuel (producing over 700 million tonnes of CO2). The design would reduce the weight of the aircraft, which would, in turn, reduce the cost of traveling for both airline and passenger.
