The Winding Tower is a basic desk except for one organizational feature that gives it an almost sculptural appeal. It boasts a glass-encased nook on one of its ends. Whether used as a display case or shelf for books, it adds a striking aesthetic touch that gives the Winding Tower an overall sense of sophistication that would otherwise be missing from a typically bare surface.
Designed by Studio Mieke Meijer, which is based in the Netherlands, the Winding Tower was inspired by industrial archeology. This influence is not only present in the glass box, but also the wire cables stabilizing the base of the desk.
Commissioned by Christian Ouwens, the Winding Tower is made predominantly out of wood with a grey table top. It has a simple silhouette that would fit into any home.
