The Wild Chair by J.C. Karich features a bristle-inspired backrest reminiscent of a porcupine. The opposite of comfortable, this sharp seater features sophisticated sensors, created to detect the presence of people and their voices.
The chair's sharp wooden spikes lay flat when it stands alone, but peak upwards when sensing a presence of individuals. As the spikes come out in defense, the chair lets out the sound of a scream, sure to scare off any potential users.
The humorous furniture piece is the work of Chilean-born, Paris-based industrial designer J.C. Karich who aimed to create a memorable furniture piece sure to have people talking. Throwing purpose and function out the window, the Wild Chair took center stage at Milan's Salone del Mobile last month gaining praise for its quirky and off-kilter design approach.
