Using green tea extract, researchers invented technology that would make wearable electronics more comfortable to wear. Based in India, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (or CSIR) developed a battery that can be recharged and inserted into wearable electronics such as smartwatches, sport bands and fitness trackers.
The compact and flexible storage device use polyphenols, which can be extracted from green tea. Polyphenols "can be charged rapidly and discharged repeatedly" according to Springwise, making them perfect for use in energy storage devices as well as an environmentally friendly approach to a more flexible battery. Strawberry-extracted polyphenols have also recently been used to create melt-resistant popsicles.
New designs like lightweight sustainable automobiles also indicate generating energy from eco materials is gaining traction.
