The WaterStatus app and water monitor concept attempts to address water issues using the Internet of Things. Ely Greenberg and Jay Hickey developed the project as part of the NYC BigApps challenge where they hoped to solve a regional problem.
The non-existent water monitor app would help residents and homeowners learn more about their water tanks while monitoring them. Using public data on water consumption, waste water treatment plants and water rates, WaterStatus would integrate Internet-connected sensors to monitor the quality of water throughout the Big Apple.
The app would enable people to find their waste water treatment plant, look at their building's water tank stats, read water tank inspection records, rate their tap water, learn about water cost increases and see other water quality data.
