The Wasflat Chair is Formed from a Single Timber Sheet

Manufacturing waste costs the company, the consumer and the planet, so pieces like this Wasflat Chair are compelling for more reasons than their clever composition. It may look like a modern but less than spectacular furnishing at first, but as you flick through the photos that describe its production and assembly, you'll see just why this project is so crafty.

Designer Francesco Marcellino began with a single, 100% recyclable, multi-ply wood panel. His instructions describe how just five milling cuts in the smooth material and the minimal removal of the two end segments essentially complete a great portion of the Wasflat Chair's fabrication. All that remains in the composition of the seat is the careful and controlled steam curving and molding to create the backrests, the arms and the legs of the piece.
