'Waiting for Water' Addresses Climate Change With Humor

Artist Stefanie Rittler addresses the serious topic of climate change with humor in her installation 'Waiting for water' -- a satirical lifeguard structure that is prematurely prepared for the rising tides. This blushing pink tower has character that embodies nativity and carelessness. Dreamily awaiting for the water to rise, the lifeguard stand is situated on top of hot-pink water jugs. The stand features a relaxing deck, and a ladder, which takes the viewer up to the structure's 'bedroom,' a place where they can patiently wait for the water to get higher.

This art installation was showcased at the annual 2017 urban campsite Amsterdam. The artist believes that ‘Through utopian eyes the future looks brighter than we think.’ As the water levels continue to rise, the artist is begging the question, "should we wait or change something?"
