San Francisco-based company Elroy Air has launched a brand new autonomous VTOL cargo drone that is capable of transporting huge loads over great distances while operating an eco-friendly system.
The Chaparral C1, which is capable of lifting and cruising, can carry up to 227 kg in its storage space and cover distances of up to 482 km on its hybrid-electric system. It is said to be able to deliver at speeds that are five times greater than trucks, while its autonomous functionality removes the risk of human error. With agreements secured for over 500 aircraft from a range of clients in the defense and commercial spaces, there clearly appears to be a great appetite for this unique cargo solution.
Ultimately, this VTOL cargo drone is well and truly targeted towards delivery and logistics industries, with Elroy Air stating that its long-term goal is to "enable same-day shipping to every person on the planet."
