Based on a paper test that the same team developed for diagnosing the Ebola virus, the device contains sensors that can detect "24 different RNA sequences found in the Zika viral genome." The test is especially important considering the outbreak of the Zika virus that began in Brazil a year ago and the link between the Zika virus and the birth defect microcephaly.
