Thanks to Virgin the Hyperloop One transportation system is becoming a reality with the Virgin XP-1. An early prototype of the pod was recently shown at Dubai's City Walk mall as part of UAE Innovation Month, and was created in collaboration with Dubai’s Road Transport Authority. The prototype is open to the public to view, but was first displayed to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
The Virgin XP-1 is the first Hyperloop passenger pod and the intended use will be to transport passengers between Dubai and Abu Dhabi in just 12 minutes. The pod itself measures 8.7 meters long and 3.3 meters in diameter. While this may seem fairly small, the pod is focused fully on luxury. Blue and red neon lights illuminate the space and give the cabin a intense sci-fi aesthetic. The interior was designed by BMW, and while there are no windows, each seat will be outfitted with interactive entertainment screens.
