Unpolished Rural Villas

Villa Icaria Enjoys Sweeping Views of Spain's Tagus River

Spanish design studio Arquitectura al Descubierto has completed a Spanish villa that redefines the relationship between country and city. Villa Icaria is located on the banks of the Tagus River in Spain and consists of a series of concrete volumes, all harmoniously and asymmetrically attached.

The home has a rather unfinished and unpolished quality which is achieved by choice of exposed concrete, rustic plastering, and concrete floors to finish the home. The villa is a refuge from the city - an alternative living condition that offers the homeowners a chance to escape city life while still enjoying city amenities.

The home's orientation was purposefully chosen to privilege the best views of the Tagus River. The result is an unpolished yet simultaneously poised home that blends the beauty of the rural landscape with the amenities of the city.
