Pliable Plastic Meshes

VeloMed is a New Plastic Mesh That Helps Transport Medication in Africa

Created by industrial design graduate Gwen Gage, VeloMed is a new plastic mesh that helps connect medication boxes together for easier delivery to remote sub-Saharan communities. Designed to fit over boxes of malaria medication, this material helps secure the units together so multiple boxes can be carried at the same time. Coming in the form of a roll of plastic strip, VeloMed was meant to give volunteers the ability to carry more without having to buy potentially new and expensive products.

The plastic strip is constructed from a low-density polyethylene and is cut to create distinct openings. The use of this material allows the VeloMed to have the right amount of tensile strength while being quite pliable. Gage is currently looking for a more biodegradable replacement for the polyethylene.
