The innovative vehicle-charging concept is kickstarted by Siemens and the German state of Hesse. The project is named 'ELISA' which stands for Electrified Innovative Heavy Traffic on the Autobahn. Essentially, the collaborators are working on a road which can charge hybrid vehicles as they drive on it. This unlocks great potential in the realm of long-distance driving for electric cars. Currently in the prototyping phase, a six-mile eHighway stretch, with 670-volt overhead cables is being tested.
