'Spread' is a Japanese vegetable factory that will grow, maintain and package plants without the need for human labor. Spread is an indoor farm that is set to open in Kyoto, Japan in 2017. The vegetable factory will be operated entirely by robots who will plant, raise, maintain and package each of the vegetables grown. Beyond simply reducing the need for human labor, Spread will also be more efficient than a traditional farm. The eco-friendly factory will run on renewable energy and it will be capable of recycling up to 98 percent of the water used. Because the farm is located indoors, there is no need for herbicides or pesticides.
