Japanese design studio Nendo introduces the 'Variation of Time' series comprised of four unconventional hourglasses. The four pieces are constructed from carved out shapes of transparent acrylic and are all designed to represent and shift the perception and the flow of time. Each piece is created in different sizes, with various passages that shape the speed and the angles that the sand travels. Nendo expresses that the hourglass is still incorporated in our lives, barely changing over the years.
The four piece Variation of Time capsule are all polished by hand with thin metal needles, resulting in a smooth and fluid shape. The fluidity of the pieces give off the concept that time is moving freely, as Nendo intends. The four designs are entitled the 'Time Divided,' 'Time Converted,' 'Time Doubled,' and 'Times Three' -- all with different angles, chambers, and flow.
