I would have kept silent about this collection, and swallowed my feelings of amazement if I didn’t have such a deep love of "urban rural" fashion. I think this fashion collection, called "Gogol," by Katea Kochubei, is the most brilliant representative of this movement.
The collection by the Moscow-based designer perfectly mixes the styles of different rural and urban cultures.
The specific nationalities which inspired these looks don’t matter, as many cultural backgrounds seem to integrate similar motives, fabrics, embroidery and lace. The collection includes folk-inspired multi-layered skirts which hit below the knee, and influences of certain features that influence design, like national cuisine from impoverished areas, can be seen. These days it seems the most stylish garments, even for the affluent, are inspired by multi-national clothing.
Some Europeans, the most poetic people in the world, still derive inspiration from distant villages, wearing items like corsets and aristocratic smocks, resulting in a hybrid style that could be described as "city meets country bumpkin".
I believe women should wear flowers in their hair and bright stockings tranquilly combined with tonal ranges of geometric and florist textile. I love the easily recognizable carpet monochrome folk patterns on fabrics and juicy graphite colors as bright as nature will allow.
Gray, red, beige and cream-greenish hues create wonderful combinations of naturalistic images for modern women.
