Urban Rigger's dormitory project is an effort to make housing less of a struggle for students in Europe. Real estate prices in many European cities are on the rise, and that issue only gets compounded for students who have no source of income. Rather than letting students slip into debt to secure a place to live, Urban Rigger, a Danish architecture firm, has taken a unique approach to student housing by building a floating dormitory in Copenhagen's harbor.
The Urban Rigger dorms provide housing for 12 students and come with a private bedroom, a bathroom and a shared kitchen and living area.
The project, built with funding by celebrity architect Bjarke Ingels' BIG, has been opened as a proof of concept in Copenhagen, but Urban Rigger hopes to build similar dormitories in other cities with harbors near the downtown core.
