3D-Printed Mini Cars

The Audi Brand Create a 3D-Printed Car Mimicking Its ‘Union Type C’

German automotive brand Audi recently unveiled its tiny 3D-printed car concept. The vehicle is designed to look identical to the ‘Union Type C’ model. This mini printed car is a tribute to the original 1930s Type C vehicle, which surpassed the leading vehicle manufacturer at the time -- Mercedes-Benz.

The 3D-printed Union Type C was created by the brand’s personal ‘Audi Toolmaking 3D Printing’ system. This special machine uses a sand-printing system as opposed to a die casting or hot forming process. This system allows it to produce large car parts as large as eight inches squared.

The small tribute car is only big enough for one man and resembles a go kart rather than a traditional automobile. Audi used a 3D-printer to create the remarkable 1:2-scale model of its iconic vehicle and is sure to inspire other car brands to market or commemorate their work in similar ways.
