The Technicolor Bloom

Inspired by topographical surfaces, Brennan Buck and his team designed and produced this stunning architectural installation, which is now on display at the Museum of Applied arts in Vienna.

'Technicolor Bloom' is a collection of 1,400 intricately cut pieces of poplar plywood bound together with cable binders. Each piece is painted white on one side and either magenta, yellow or blue on the other. Various layers and thicknesses were also used to create this elaborate tunnel, which to me bears a resemblance to the spiral of a helix. It took the team 12 hours to complete final assembly of the installation.

Very beautiful and highly technical illustrations and descriptions of the design process are on the Technicolor Bloom website.
