Empathy-Inducing Toys

Twenty One Toys Mixes Empathy and Play to Show Educational Power in Toys

The Empathy & Creative Dialogue Toy was designed by Gonzalo and Llana of Twenty One Toys. Both product designers suggest that toys belong in a school environment. The Empathy & Creative Dialogue Toy is a wooden 3D puzzle game where players get a set of 10 puzzle pieces.

Each puzzle piece has a different shape and texture, and can be connected in a hundred ways. If one person creates a pattern with one set for their partner, the person who created the pattern has to guide the other player in recreating that specific pattern.

The only challenge of the game is that you’ll be blindfolded. The duo behind toy company Twenty One Toys decided that the toy set was ideal for learning, because in order to be successful at the game, it requires empathizing with other team players and the joint need to create a common language to solve the problem together. Each toy includes cognitive activities, discussion topics and gameplay scenarios to help teachers and parents to hone in on the "educational power of empathy and play."
