Nancy Kubale's Latest Sculptures Remind One of a Demented Circus

Mixed media artist Nancy Kubale uses hand-building techniques to form the core of her traveling circus performer sculptures mainly from clay. Nancy Kubale uses the process of making mixed media sculpture in order to philisophically figure out what the soul wants in life--or at least, what humans want from life and what keeps them at peace.

By using wheels, rope, backpacks and wagons as visual metaphors, Nancy Kubale makes these props to signify experience and aspiration. Many of Kubale's characters are either pulling their aspirations and experiences behind them in wagons, or on the backs of animals while traveling on to another disappointing adventure. Others are wearing their desires on their bodies or perched on their heads. If you were one of Nancy Kubale's circus freaks, what would you be toting?
