Multipurpose Container Buildings

Tomokazu Hayakawa Architects Expands on a Shipping Container

Tomokazu Hayakawa Architects have built a multipurpose shipping container building that is currently being used for both a gallery space as well as an office. "The irregular composition on the site distinguishes the structure from its context, while openness to the outside promotes connectivity with the active downtown area," as stated on DesignBoom.

Considering that part of the shipping containers are being used for a gallery, this helps for bringing in more clientele. Having an open storefront encourages visitors to walk in off the street, and hopefully ask a few questions about the artwork.

Shipping containers these days are becoming more and more common in terms of architectural design, and for good reason. Most of them provide an inexpensive way to set up a home or business. Photo Credits: designboom, thykw
