To some, Toluene Tank by Zimoun may look like the inside of a space station or NASA experiment. In reality, it is the latest sound installation by the Bern-based Swiss artist. Surprisingly, it comes hot on the heels of a body of new work that was recently unveiled earlier this year.
Taking over a common chemical tank, hence its name, Toluene Tank by Zimoun employs the use of 329 of the artist’s trademark prepared dc-motors and black cotton balls, all of which have been fixed to its pristinely painted inner walls. Located in Dottikon, Switzerland, it was created in collaboration with Hannes Zweifel Architecture, Davide Groppi and many more.
Creating a whirring, rhythmic soundscape, Toluene Tank by Zimoun is a mesmerizing art installation.
