The initiative is overseen by the nonprofit organization Nippon Foundation and a total of 17 bathroom facilities are expected to come out of it.
Interior design studio Wonderwall is taking part in the Tokyo Toilet project, introducing "a maze of board-marked concrete walls" that enclose a public washroom facility. To make the space accessible, the firm referenced primitive kawaya huts which were utilized as toilets in the earliest era of Japanese history. In other words, Wonderwall tapped the origin of toilets on the island county. The structure is located in Ebisu Park.
