When soldier Ed Drew was called for duty in Afghanistan he knew there was always the possibility that he may not come back; in order to leave a legacy for his son, Drew used tintype photography.
Drew used old civil war-style photography in order to give a realistic feel to who his team is. Each soldier had to sit still for six to ten seconds in order to transfer the image onto the tin. Then, an additional 40 seconds was needed before the final print was done. Drew wanted to keep the photos as natural as possible, so in case anything were to happen to him, his son would be able to see who he was with when he passed. Ed Drew created amazing and emotionally charged work when he opted for tintype photography instead of modern-day technology.
