'Tilt Shift' Shrinks and Captures Well Known Places and Events

In an effort to shrink the world, Richard Silver has diabolically captured instantly recognizable landmarks with tilt-shift photography. Silver traveled the world as extensively as possible in order to shrink a wide collection of places and events.

Landmarks like Rome's Coliseum and the London Bridge were ruthlessly captured and tilt-shifted to add to Silver's collection. No continent was safe, as landmarks from Asia, Europe and the Americas among other places were systematically captured.

The tilt-shifting technique that Silver used extensively is created by using a selective focus. By tilting the photo, a picture's focus can be brought to a particular scene and thus miniaturizing it.

Silver's goal for this project was to show people "a new way of seeing themselves and their place in the world." By shrinking the world to a size usually reserved for ants, Silver has done just that.
