The Stone is a new cultural site designed for Trent Park, England, that is inspired by the legend of King Arthur. Trent Park is the rumored location of King Arthur's court, so when the town decided to hold a contest to design a new cultural center, the inspiration for the structure was a no-brainer. Swedish firm Råk-Arkitektur won the contest with their aptly named piece, 'The Stone.'
The Stone is inspired by the legendary tale of King Arthur pulling a mythical sword from a stone. The building is shaped like said stone and stands 118 feet high. The entire structure is covered in mirrors to reflect the surrounding forest and make the building less offensive to the eye. The greatest part of this design is its sword tip-shaped skylight. During the day, the opening allows light in, and at night a beam of light will be shot out of it to make The Stone even more captivating and mythical.
