Architect Anssi Lassila's contribution to the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014 is titled 'The Resilient of Architecture,' and consists of two huts located outside of the Finnish Pavilion. The first is constructed out of spruce wood, while the second is made from bamboo.
The project aims to explore the relationship between form and material in architecture. Though the hut is primitive in its design, it features the use of Finnish materials and building techniques. Ole Bouman, the creative director of the Fifth Shenzhen and Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, explains, "It goes through a process of cultural translation. The core of architecture survives but the way it survives is completely different."
The message behind Lassila's project is ultimately that timeless techniques can be relied upon, but the results will morph according to exterior influences.
